Breathe it into life

Breathe it into life

The New Moon: when the night sky is dark and we can only see the stars. The Sun and Moon come together in the sign of Taurus this Saturday, May 4. Taurus is the sign of the Earth, the body and of abundance. It is spring at its fullest expression: abundant, fertile, and expansive. The Sun will continue to move through Taurus for the next few weeks until it moves into Gemini on May 21.

Taurus is the bull- tenacious, strong and virile. It is the stabilizing force following Aries- the impulsive, assertive and quick moving sign that initiated the light of spring. Taurus is the yin expression of Venus: aesthetic, sensual and embodied. The middle of spring is a time to slow down, become present, and awaken our senses. The magnetic quality of Taurus allows it to accumulate, grow, and draw in possessions. When Taurus becomes destructive, it is possessive, greedy, and controlling. But in its highest expression, Taurus is highly creative, and has the ability to manifest its desires in the physical world.

At the time of the New Moon, Mercury and Venus are still in Aries, firing up this lunation. With Mercury in Aries, our mind is quick and impulsive; our communication is assertive and honest. Venus in Aries can make us impatient, and our desires may fluctuate and change from one moment to the next. Mars is speeding along through Gemini, an energy that is open to lots of ideas but easily loses focus. It is dynamic, but has difficulty following through..

This lunation requires taking the time to balance the various energy of the planets. Venus in Aries is the ruler of this New Moon- igniting us and inspiring us as we plant our seeds of intention. But this energy can burn out easily, and Taurus wants to plant seeds and grow that which is stable and able to provide sustenance.

Taurus describes our values, our worth, and it is the energy that sustains us. What do you value? What is of worth to you? What sustains you?

You are a spiritual being in human form. Our time here is finite. Your desires want to take shape.

Trust that your needs will be met. Trust that you are supported. Trust that every day is a day of possibility.

Create. Breathe life into your dreams and watch as they grow, expand, and come into form.

Slow & Steady

Slow & Steady

Spring is here! The middle of spring is the time of year in the northern hemisphere when the Sun moves through the sign of Taurus. Taurus is the bull- steady, stubborn, and grounded. As an Earth sign, Taurus is oriented in the material realm. Embodying the energy of Taurus is to feel embodied: awakening the senses. Taking baths, using essential oils, wearing comfortable clothing, eating delicious food are all sensual experiences.

Ruled by Venus, Taurus has a magnetic quality to it. While Aries is assertive, quick-moving and impulsive, Taurus is receptive. Taurus likes to accumulate: things, money, people- anything it finds valuable.

While the Sun moves through Taurus, it is a time to reflect and examine the ways in which you are in relationship with the resources around you: the things you own, how you spend your time and energy, and how you take care of the Earth. Aries rules the head, the cranium, and the mind- and Taurus rules the mandible, the neck and the throat. Taurus is the fixed energy that holds our head in place.

During Taurus season we will have two lunation cycles: a New Moon in Taurus on May 4 and a Full Moon in Scorpio on May 18.

Stay tuned for more on the New and Full Moons as they approach. Until then, sing, eat something nourishing, take a nap, and get into your body!

Everyone is a Mirror

Everyone is a Mirror

The Full Moon- when the face of the Moon is fully illuminated by the light of the Sun. In astrology, a Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are in exact opposition to one another. On Friday, the light of the Sun in Aries will illuminate the face of the Moon in its opposite sign: Libra.

Aries is the sign of individuality, identity and ego.

Libra is the sign of partnership, relationships, and marriage.

Aries initiates the personal relationship with self.

Libra initiates the external experience of relationship with other.

Ruled by Mars, Aries is the warrior- courageous, brave, and decisive. Aries is the sign of individuality, identity and ego. Its energy initiates the personal relationship with self.

Ruled by Venus, Libra is symbolized by the scales- fair, harmonious, and balanced. Libra is the sign of marriage, partnerships, and relationships. Its energy initiates the external experience of relationship with other.

The Sun is a symbol of pure consciousness- it is where our attention is. In the sign of Aries, our awareness is on our idea of self- who we are, what makes us unique, and how we assert ourselves. The Moon in Libra illuminates our emotional need for relationships.

The lesson of this Full Moon is to align who you are with your purpose.

What relationships support you? How does your life path and purpose support your relationships?

Surround yourself with the people who make you feel empowered and free, and have the courage to redefine or release the relationships that disempower you.

Live in your truth, and remember that we are here to uplift one another.

Full Moon Blessings.

Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused

Why does it feel like Mercury is still retrograde? Confusion, lack of clarity, difficulty articulating thoughts…

Mercury is still in Pisces- and will be there for another week. It’s cleaning up the mess its made since the beginning of February.

If this retrograde has been extremely difficult for you (it’s been harder for me than other retrogrades), it may be partially due to the fact that Mercury in Pisces operates in a very non-linear, abstract way. Mercury represents the mind. It is the quickest planet orbiting the Sun, and is the most variable in terms of speed and direction. Mercury is quick, intellectual, and likes to gather information. Mercury is a symbol of our cognitive process- it is how we think, process information, communicate and express ourselves.

But Mercury doesn’t do so well in a sign like Pisces. In traditional astrology, the Sun and Moon our two luminaries, rule the signs Cancer and Leo. Moving outwards from those signs, Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, Venus rules Taurus and Libra, Mars rules Aries and Scorpio, Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and, finally, Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius.

When Mercury is in Gemini or Virgo, it is considered to be in its domicile- it is familiar and understands the energy well. Pisces is the polarity (or opposite) of Virgo. Mercury in Virgo is discerning, discriminating, critical, and detail-oriented. As you can imagine, Mercury in its opposite sign, Pisces, is non-linear, abstract, and impractical.

If you happen to know your natal placement of Mercury, you may better understand why this transit has felt especially confusing. Pisces is a water sign- it is yin, receptive and intuitive. All of the yang signs are expressive, action-oriented, and move energy outwards. The yang signs of the zodiac are: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. If Mercury was in any of those signs at the time of your birth, then your mind may have a more challenging time understanding thee watery, fluid energy of Pisces.

Look up your natal Mercury if you don’t already know it! There are several websites that will calculate your birth chart by simply entering your date of birth, location, and time of birth- if you know it.

Regardless of your own personal placement, this Mercury retrograde has been one of the most challenging ones for me personally, and for those close to me.

Hang tight though! Mercury moves into Aries in just one week!
