New Moon in Scorpio

Scorpio New Moon

When change is met with resistance, it disrupts. When change is met with openness, it frees. Embracing the freedom that comes from change is the freedom that opens us up to pure creative potential.

This evening the Sun and Moon join at 4° of Scorpio. The face of the moon goes into complete darkness, and we begin a new cycle of transformation. Scorpio is the sign of power, emotional attachments, and the shadow. It takes us into the psychological depths we rarely dive into- and it is where we experience death, transformation and rebirth.

In exact opposition to the Sun and Moon in Scorpio is Uranus, at 4° of Taurus. Uranus is a planet that creates upheaval, innovation, and chaos. It is revolutionary, confrontational, and electric. Uranus brings insight and new ideas when we are open to it. However it can also feel extremely destabilizing and uncomfortable.

The tension of this lunation between the Sun and Moon in opposition to Uranus is forcing change, whether or not we are ready or willing. We are given permission to rebel against the psychological wounding that has kept us feeling trapped or powerless. We are able to set ourselves free by connecting to spirit and journeying into the underworld.

Scorpio season is a time to dive deep into the subconscious realm, to acknowledge all parts of our selves, and to initiate a process of healing. It is a time to rise from the ashes and emerge anew.

New Moon in Leo

Heart of Gold: New Moon in Leo

Something new is taking form. We move into darkness this evening as the Sun and Moon join together at the 8th degree of Leo. Leo is the sign of the sun, the sign of the heart, and the sign of gold. At the New Moon we begin again, and in the sign of Leo, we initiate a new cycle- one of living from a courageous, heart-centered space- unafraid to express our creativity.

Leo shines in the spotlight. Its energy is magnetic and abundant. At its true essence, Leo reminds us to take ownership of our uniqueness, and that there is enough light for everyone. Leo emanates from the heart, from the center- just as the sun radiates light from the center of our solar system.

At this New Moon, Mercury is beginning to station and move forward in the zodiac again. Mercury has been in its retrograde cycle since July 7, turning our mind inward and reviewing the previous couple of weeks. The stopping point of Mercury is at the 23rd degree of Cancer. The lunar eclipse that took place on July 16 was at the 24th degree: Sun in Cancer, Moon in Capricorn. As Mercury moves through the final degrees of Cancer and back into Leo, listen for any messages you may have missed or overlooked at the time of the full moon. Mercury retrograde can be a time of insight, as information surfaces that may not have been as obvious prior.

This New Moon is a time to set an intention of creation. What does your soul long to express? What if you could express this desire without fear or doubt or judgment?

Trust your heart- then surrender your attachment to the outcome.

Over the next couple of weeks the planets moving through Leo will be in conversation with others planets- bringing us expansion and abundance, as well as challenging us to go with the flow and embrace change.

Your heart is gold. Let it shine brightly.

Leo Season

Summertime

Leo Season is in full swing. Leo is summer at its brightest and boldest expression, and holds the fire element of the fixed cross. Symbolized by the lion, Leo represents courage, loyalty, leadership and enthusiasm. Leo is warm, playful and expressive.

Ruled by the Sun, Leo is heat: abundant, generous and radiant- the center of our solar system. The Sun is the central organizing force of our solar system, keeping all of our planets in orbit. The Sun’s movement is the most consistent of all planetary bodies from our vantage point, and is therefore a symbol of stability and strength. The Sun is our star- it gives us hope, optimism, and light.

In the body, Leo rules the heart. Just as the Sun is the center of our solar system, our heart is the center of our energy centers: connecting Earth with the Heavens. In Chinese medicine, the heart is associated with fire, and during the summer, the heart’s energy is at its peak. The heart is the root of life, and it is where our spirit resides.

Leo is magnetic- it has a gravitational force and loves to be the center of attention. Leo is dramatic, performative and charismatic. When Leo gets stuck in its need for approval, it can become bombastic and tyrannical, and incredibly sensitive to criticism. But at its purest essence, Leo is creative expression that emanates from the heart- shining brightly and encouraging everyone else to shine as well.

Leo season is a time to tap into the playful, creative energy from within the heart. it is a time to authentically express yourself, with presence and love. It is not a time to judge or criticize yourself or others. Ridicule and shame destroys the creative spirit of Leo, and is detrimental to our intrinsic need to feel worthy.

The Sun began its yearly transit through Leo last Monday night, July 22, where it will remain until August 23. Venus will join the Sun and Mars tomorrow- inspiring boldness and passion in our desires and actions.

Mercury is still traversing the waters of Cancer, teaching us about what we need in order to feel emotionally secure. Any Mercury retrograde gives us the chance to reflect and gain new insight into something we may have initially overlooked or missed. Stay alert for moments of intuitive clarity.

The eclipses have passed, yet the energy will continue to linger until the moon reaches complete darkness at the Leo New Moon on July 31- the same day Mercury moves direct.

Prioritize both rest and play, and always keep your center- your heart.

A new beginning is just on the horizon.

Eclipse Season

Eclipse Season

Twice a year, the lunar cycles take a detour from the usual new and full moons during each zodiacal season and we experience eclipses. A solar eclipse is a new moon- and in certain parts of the world, if you witness a solar eclipse, the light of the sun is eclipsed and there is darkness. Eclipses were thought to be ominous in ancient times, as they disrupted the natural cycle of life. Lunar eclipses occur at full moons- when the moon passes behind the Earth and into its shadow. The sun, earth, and moon all align, and if you watched the lunar eclipse in January- the moon appeared to turn orange.

While the sun moves through Cancer we will experience two eclipses: first, a solar eclipse on Tuesday, July 2 and second, a total lunar eclipse on Tuesday, July 16. Eclipses are thought to be karmic events. While the wheel of the zodiac moves clockwise, the nodal axis- the axis where eclipses occur, moves counterclockwise. In order to move forward, we must also look to the past.

Beginning last year, the eclipse axis shifted from Leo and Aquarius into Cancer and Capricorn. Eclipses stay in a set of signs for about 1.5 years, and therefore it takes about 18 years to move through the entire zodiac.

Eclipses heighten energy and stimulate the areas of life symbolized by the astrological signs they occur in. In the Cancer-Capricorn axis, our focus on our home, family, roots, as well as our career, ambitions, and public life increases. The path of the sun and moon intersect, they eclipse one another. They give us a glimpse of something that was in the shadow- something we may not have been fully aware of before.

On the nodal axis, there is a north node- the direction the moon is ascending towards, and a south node- the place the moon is moving away from. The north node is symbolic of the energy we are needing more of, while the south node is a release of energy. With the north node in Cancer, our need for inclusivity, emotional sensitivity and compassion is highlighted.

The sun and moon will align on Tuesday, July 2- a new moon solar eclipse. New moons bring an inward focus, and in the sign of Cancer, that focus is on our emotional bonds, our family, and where we came from. The ideas or projects that begin at the solar eclipse may take 6 months to come to fruition, but the effects are powerful. This solar eclipse is a time to ask yourself where you feel a sense of belonging. What relationships in your life put you at ease, make you feel comfortable, and give you permission to be yourself? If the place you call home and the people you consider family are not in alignment with a sense of belonging and love, this is an opportunity to shift into a new way of being.

Eclipses can stir up energy and bring unexpected, but sometimes necessary, changes. During the days leading up to the solar eclipse, and through the end of the month, it is important to stay open-minded, flexible, and aware of your emotional reactivity. Cancer can be incredibly defensive and will shut down if it feels threatened. It is not a time to overreact, but instead to clarify and pause before speaking or acting impulsively

In the meantime, Mercury has been in its shadow for a week, and moved into the sign of Leo yesterday. Mercury will continue to slow down for the next week until it stations retrograde and begins to move backwards. Mercury retrograde is an apparent movement backward from our vantage point on Earth, and from July 7-31, it will appear to move from the early degrees of Leo back into the sign of Cancer.

June has been an intense month and has brought up a lot of challenge, frustration and difficulty. July will be a time to review and reprocess what has surfaced the last few weeks.

As we move into the weekend and the moon continues to wane, slow down, practice patience, and avoid engaging in any drama.

More on Mercury retrograde and the rest of eclipse season soon.
